Choice International Shade (CI Shade) - the Gulf Region's leading experts in high-quality tensile and structural shading solutions. Based in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
An oil and gas shade contractor Saudi Arabia clients can rely on has to think beyond simple cover. In refinery yards, tank farms, loading points, utilities blocks and maintenance bays, shade needs to deal with heat, glare, salt air, sand and constant vehicle movement without getting in the way of work.
At CI Shade, we build that kind of protection every day from our base in Al Khobar, with project experience across the Eastern Province and Bahrain. Our team handles design, structural steel, fabrication, installation and aftercare, so you get one point of responsibility for the whole structure.
The oil and gas environment in Saudi Arabia is unforgiving. Metal surfaces heat up quickly, tools and walkways sit under strong UV, and crews often work through dust, wind and coastal moisture in the same shift. A well-designed shade structure helps protect people, improve working comfort and keep sensitive equipment or access points cooler and more usable.
Around Al Khobar, Dammam, Jubail and Bahrain, the weather can punish weak materials. We choose fabric and steel combinations that suit that reality, with PVC coated fabric, PVDF coated fabric, HDPE fabric, PTFE fabric and ETFE film available for the right application. The aim is not decoration. It is dependable cover that stays straight, keeps tension and holds up to the site conditions.
Oil and gas sites rarely have spare room. We plan around pipe racks, cable routes, emergency access, fire lanes, loading movement and maintenance clearances, then shape the structure around those constraints. That is where design and engineering matter. A shade cover that looks fine on paper can become a problem if it blocks a route or creates an awkward blind corner.
The work varies, but the need is familiar. Some clients want vehicle shelter for staff parking near administrative buildings. Others need covered waiting zones, walkway protection, equipment staging areas or shaded rest points for labour crews. In industrial yards, we also see demand for steel canopy works and roof features that support larger building functions.
Many oil and gas projects need more than fabric. They need columns, bases, roof features, access ladders and steel works that tie cleanly into the wider site. We handle that in-house, which keeps coordination simpler and the final structure more consistent with the site layout.
Our approach fits the discipline these projects demand. We work with stamped calculations where needed, detailed shop drawings and supervised installation, and we keep safety visible from the first site check through to handover. That matters on industrial premises where small mistakes are expensive.
Every site is different, but the process should still feel clear. We keep it practical, direct and shaped around the actual job rather than a generic drawing set.
For oil and gas work, we pay close attention to what the structure is made from and how it will age. PVC coated fabric is a common choice for many shade applications, while PVDF coated fabric offers a cleaner surface finish for more demanding exposed positions. HDPE fabric is useful in certain privacy and screening applications, and PTFE or ETFE can be considered where project conditions call for a higher-spec engineered solution. The frame, meanwhile, must be sized properly for wind load, site exposure and the actual geometry of the structure.
| Material / System | Typical Use on Site | Practical Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| PVC coated fabric | Parking shades, access covers and general canopy work | Strong everyday option with good tensioned-form performance |
| PVDF coated fabric | Exposed oil and gas shade structures | Helps with surface cleanability and a more durable appearance |
| HDPE fabric | Privacy fence shades and screening | Useful for visual screening and airflow where full enclosure is not needed |
| Structural steel frame | Canopies, roof features and larger industrial supports | Provides the backbone for load transfer and long-term stability |
We often meet clients who are focused on the membrane first. Fair enough, it is the part everyone sees. But in practice, the steel arrangement underneath decides how well the structure behaves in wind, how cleanly it drains and how easy it is to maintain later. Good shade in the oil and gas sector is a structural job with fabric on top, not the other way round.
CI Shade supports oil and gas clients with design & engineering, project management, manufacturing, installation and maintenance, plus steel contracting for related site works. We know how to build for the Eastern Province climate, and we understand the pace and discipline industrial projects demand. If you need a shade contractor for a refinery, industrial compound, service yard or support facility, we’re ready to talk it through.
